the most predictable blog post of the year

oh come on... you know mrs w has been away in ireland for a few days.

you know i'm home alone and i'm going to have to eat...
this post was bound to happen.
i mean, just look at my track record:

for those of you who don't want to know the score, please look away now...

so here's what i like to call, 'the set-up'
this is just about all you need to make this stunning and dare i say healthy meal.

step 1.
you're going to need a big plate.

step 2.
on go the jockeys. by now the excitement should be building up nicely.

step 3.
empty out the carton of chicken fried rice onto the jockeys.
if you spill a bit of rice and the odd pea over the side that's fine.

step 4.
pour a carton of curry sauce right on top of the chicken fried rice.
if you have a tear in your eye by this stage that's quite acceptable...

step 5.
you're going to need a beverage to compliment this fine meal.
here i've opted for a bottle of st peter's golden ale but most bitters are acceptable
as is lager, as long as it has a shot of lime cordial in it.

bonus step 6. ( the sneaky move )
if you fancy a dessert after this meal, why not take this tip of mine which
i'm sharing here for the first time.

during step 3, hold back a small amount of chicken fried rice.
during step 4, hold back a small amount of curry sauce and pour it
on top of the saved c.f.r. in the carton.
put the lid back on the carton to keep it warm-ish and voila !
when you've finished your main course, dessert is waiting for you in the carton !

  2. not only do i love the fact that this is your signature dish - i find it hilarious that you always use the same champneys plate.

  3. it's the biggest plate i have and yes, i always bring it out for my favourite meal.

i was given it when i did a shoot at champneys a few years ago.

funnily enough i have just started looking into getting a replacement plate for this meal... something a bit special.
i'll do a post about it when i finally find one.

  4. I never tire of this, it's how I discovered you in the first place, looking online for pics of chips, fried rice and curry sauce, as you do and I've read your blog ever since...I too, do the exact same with my meal..exactly, even down to the 'dessert at the end!
