new york story part 4: brooklyn we go hard

the next photo i found from new york was this one
me and the flatiron building. looks like i'm wearing my gloves here. yes... i remember,
it was pretty cold, or rather there was a biting wind. brrr !

would this be union square ? i can't remember exactly, but what i do recall is...
i honestly think this was the best bit of the 3 days i was in new york.
at this apple stall thing i bought a cup of hot apple cider for $1
it was just about perfect. i sat on a bench listening to my music, it was sunny yet
cold, i warmed up my hands on the cup and the hot apple juice was
absolutely spot-on. golden delicious times !

i decided to take a train to brooklyn. somebody had recommended
a couple of coffee shops to me and also told me that the part of brooklyn
that they were in was like how soho used to be before it got all commercialised.

so, waiting for the train i took this sneaky photo of a busker
i guess you had to be there ? he was making an amazing sound with
a funny looking instrument. top busking.

i got off the subway at bedford station.
brooklyn struck me as a very... er... groovy kind of place. it reminded me
a little bit of the haight / ashbury district in san francisco.

i called in at one of the coffee shops that had been recommended to me.
el beit.
it was a really sweet little place. i queued up for a while thinking i'd
have to take-away, but just as i got my coffee, a seat became free and i took a few shots.
all the while i was there the queue got bigger and bigger.

in this frame you can see the barista working his magic
the woman on the right who's face you can just about see...
i swear i knew her, you know... like she was an actress or model or something ?

oh... here's my flat white
it was very nice... kind of creamy

the coffee machine at el beit was probably the most stunning machine i've seen.
well, i do like the colour orange as you might recall ?

excellent !

outside el beit i spotted this bloke with his dog
nice light eh ?
as a bonus you can see me in the reflection here... perfect.

some nasty wall painting thing around bedford street, or was it berry street ?

another bright effort on the street was this
i guess it was some sort of installation thing. a heap of bright plastic bottles
all strung together and suspended above some rubbish bins.

just around the corner from here i found a cracking shop called 'the future perfect'
not only did it sell michael sodeau's stationary range but it also sold some
very interesting cushions... look at mr fox ( you know the fox is my favourite )

anyway, i was just looking at this shot and i noticed two little details...
1. look at the alphabet series prints on the wall. h is for homos ?
2. the cushion underneath the fox has 'nos da' on the label... welsh for 'good night'

moving on, the second coffee place that was recommended to me was the blue bottle
once again, massive queues. then again, it was a massive place.
probably the biggest coffee shop i've ever seen.

nice details too
a bit like a scientist's lab.

woah ! it was a scientist's lab... look at the back of the shop
this section was roped off but it looks like coffee experiments are carried out here.
also there is a room on the right through the window see ?
and on the left there was a big kitchen-y type thing... all very mysterious !

i wish the blue bottle was in london
two thumbs up for the blue bottle and el beit.

brooklyn we go hard.
