snapshots and observations

on my coffee table this week

time for everybody's favourite feature... ( are you sure ? - ed )

here's what i'm reading, listening to and watching this week

book: whisky galore
by compton mackenzie.
ok i only started this book last night so i can't say much about it except i very much enjoyed the film that was made of it. also any book with the tag-line
"a classic tale of love, larceny and liquor" has to be worth reading.

dvd: after the fox
as i mentioned yesterday, mrs w has left me home alone for a few days.
mrs w has no time for sellers, whereas i find him quite fascinating. he was the classic tortured genius. reading about his life he sounds like a fairly horrible man. he was however,
an amazing talent. this little known film was made when his career was on the up and up.
it was written by neil simon, has a score by burt bacharach and is directed by vittorio de sica.
what could possibly go wrong ?
unlike say "fish story" or "black cat white cat" i would not actually recommend this film to you.
it's funny in places, it's quite stylish, it's quaint, but all-in all i'd only recommend it if your wife has left you home alone and there's nothing good on the telly.

cd: premiers symptomes by air
to remind me of mrs w
